Picky Picky Picky

I wasn’t adjusting to the theme (look and layout) I chose last week, so I’m trying this one.

  2. I had this one when I first started – I think it feels nice and rich without being busy. For me this one was not as good for larger photos, but it felt pretty cool otherwise. It looks good on you 🙂

          You should look through, there are some beautiful themes that would work very nicely for a photo intensive blog.
          Left to my own devices, I wouldn’t have changed, but once I did…

  4. Noe this is one I looked at so I likey. And it is very fringy. So that’s a good thing. I’m just so in love with mine at the mo, nothing else is standing up against it. Pure, clean, simple. just like us 🙂

  5. Have been under the weather for a good bit of May – some kind of sleeping sickness -lol – ON TOP OF w-a-y behind catch-up to-dos from last month’s conference activities. So – of course – I’m “easing my way back” with vitally important blog visiting ::vbg::

    Sorry to have missed your intirim theme choice, but want to ring in anyway. This theme looks lovely. IMHO, if it does what you want *functionally* and YOU like it, that’s 10/1 what counts most.

    Anyone who blogs knows that we authors spend the majority of our lives on and off our own sites – or so it seems. Visitors drop in and out. As long as the theme is not so busy I get lost or distracted (or headaches!), THIS visitor, at least, is 110/1 times more interested in the manner in which your WORDS convey your thoughts than the look of your theme (or any photos or graphics you might decide to post.)

    Many of us “old-schoolers” fondly recall the simplicity of books (not comic books – oops, sorry! “graphic novels.”) Amazing, huh, that books retain the same “look and feel” for generations and people still buy them? Don’t let the zip-bam-wham advice of the kids worry you too much. Writers write for READERS, not gamers. As long as the Boomer generation is still alive, there will always be more than enough of us who know how to read and choose to do so!

    Oy, WP changes!! I feel your pain. I hope whatever some 20-something hotshot decides is too cool for school NEXT won’t send you off on another trip through theme-ville attempting to recapture functionality — so you don’t waste minutes you could be writing fiddling with formatting and posting. Here’s to a long and happy relationship with this theme so you can get your head back into the reason you began blogging to begin with.

    Said another way – when I go into a bathroom, I am never bothered by the fact that nobody has “improved” the amenities. I don’t visit for the view. I prefer the comfort of knowing EXACTLY how to get on with whatever I went in to do — so I don’t waste a brain cell figuring out how or where, and can spend them ALL on the vanishing art of thinking about IDEAS with depth beyond sound-bites. (God invented twitter & pinterest for the snapshot folks.)

    As for those “Happiness Engineers” tasked with the email mitigation of the frustrations of the “user community” with non-ceasing bubble-under-plastic “improvements” at the whim of whatever some youngster-clubhouse decides would be amazing, I have only one piece of wisdom to mirror back at ’em – “clear cache & cookies – reinstall (or use another) browser”

    Or, as Gates “fans” used to say, “it’s a feature, not a bug!”

      Welcome Back 🙂 I’m sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well, but glad you’re on the upswing now.

      My main concerns when choosing a theme are ease of reading and that it have the little sidebars built in without me having to customize anything. That’s been the same throughout, but I realized there are other considerations now that I’ve been blogging for a while. Attractive but not too girly looking, eye catching without being distracting, something that photos will look nice against…A simple blog, but more thought goes into it than I realized 😉

      When you mention a bathroom…I was at someone’s apartment once, very fancy, very modern. It took a good five minutes to figure out how the toilet flushed! So yes, a very apt analogy indeed.

      And I agree, when you were raised on “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” it’s hard to adjust to “improvements you didn’t feel you needed that seem to magically appear!

  7. I love the new look as well! I think it’s super sleek. Layout is easy to read. I think it’s a keeper.

    It took me months to settle on my blog’s current look. I wanted an online magazine feel and WordPress forums actually recommended the “Morning After” theme. I haven’t had the itch to give my blog a makeover since then. But I’m sure it’s only a matter of time!

      It was definitely a more difficult decision than I expected, choosing a new theme.

      I hated to change again so quickly, but the one I had up last week didn’t feel like it reflected Mrs Fringe 🙂

  8. As you know I like it. It is very Fringey, I think, and I don’t entirely know WHY I feel that way but I felt that way immediately. Actually, one reason did just occur to me- it kinda looks like concrete, which made me think of a city. I have no idea what you’ll think of a subliminal association with concrete. :O

    Aesthetically speaking, I also like the sidebar widgets vs. the footers, and it still leaves enough width for a decent sized photo. And I just happen to like the gray+red. 🙂

      I am loving the different shades of gray. Enough to “pop” but not so much it’s hard to read the posts.

      And yes, it definitely put me in mind of concrete. In fact,isn’t concrete considered a “green” material now for floors? Look at me, I’m saving the earth, one blog at a time. 😉

  10. I can’t remember what the other one looked like. I get so busy word fencing with you I don’t notice what is around the writing. That’s a lot of help, huh. I like this, though, and the torn edge look to the left is Fringey.

  11. It looks a bit boxy, although I like the patina of the aged wood. The handles on the side could be a bit uncomfortable if you fall asleep on top of it. Whatever works for you works for me though, just don’t stuff that thing like some Boss Tweed version of Election Nightmare on Elm Street. (cue those Jamie Lee screams).
