More like an hour than a day, but still. I was outside of my comfort zone, ok?!
Today’s post is pretty much snark free, photo intensive. I’m not much of a photographer, but I thought it would be cool to share.
There are free,temporary, often interesting art exhibits/installations mounted in Manhattan. This morning Husband and I went to see Discovering Columbus, by the Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi. He designed a living space around the 13 foot statue of Christopher Columbus in Columbus Circle. Normally this statue is in the middle of the circle, unnoticed and exposed to the designs of innumerable pigeons. The statue itself is on top of a granite column, reaching about 75 feet in total. To reach the exhibit (enclosed by scaffolding), you climb up 6 flights of temporary metal stairs, and then down another set after viewing.

This is fascinating! What a novel idea, and except for the climb, I’m sure I would love to see that in person.

Thanks K! It was pretty cool, and ADA accessible. There was an enclosed hoist for people who needed it, and I saw a few people in wheelchairs make use of this. 🙂

Some jaunt it must have been to reach the exhibit. Looks well worth it though. Love how the Columbus statue is surrounded by such a normal living space. The placement of the statue seems random yet so intentional.

6 flights, not bad. 🙂 It’s pretty cool, the coffee table is built around the base of the statue. I love the way people came up and were literally just chilling, reading the newspaper and magazines that were left out.

This is quite mad you know.. I probably need to point that out. you manhatten lot are used to mad I know. but from a rural uk perspective… barking 🙂

When I uploaded the photos, I did the whole batch at once, at the end it gave an option that said “slideshow,” and I clicked it. Trust me, if I can do it you can do it 😀

Very interesting concept on the part of the artist. You had some cool pics in there of the cityscape and one in particular I liked of the scaffolding of all things. 😉

Thanks for taking me on your walk. I love that I didn’t have to climb the 6 flights of stairs & come back down. Your pictures were great to give a tiny feel of the whole experience.
